Hathras (UP), July 3 – The death toll in the Hathras stampede incident, which occurred during a satsang in the Sikandra Rao area, has risen to 121. Minister Sandeep Singh, who has been present in Hathras since Tuesday evening, confirmed the deaths and reported 35 injured. He assured that those found guilty will face stern action.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Hathras, meeting with the injured and their families at the hospital after holding a review meeting at the circuit house. An FIR has been filed against chief sewadaar Devprakash Madhukar, the organisers, and other sewadaars under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). It was alleged that the organizers permitted an assembly of 80,000 people, but over 2.5 lakh devotees attended, leading to mismanagement and the subsequent stampede.
Minister Asim Arun announced that an inquiry committee headed by ADG Zone Agra has been formed and a criminal investigation has begun. The tragedy occurred during a satsang by Bhole Baba in Pulrai village.
CM Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences and announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. He directed officials to ensure immediate treatment for the injured and wished for their speedy recovery.
