New Delhi, April 7: In response to rising global geopolitical uncertainties, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research has set up a dedicated high level task force to safeguard the country’s agricultural stability and ensure uninterrupted food and input availability. The move was finalized during its inaugural meeting led by the Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education and Director General of ICAR, where a multi dimensional roadmap was discussed to reinforce resilience in the farm sector.
A key focus area includes expanding the reach of the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav programme to connect more effectively with farmers across 100 aspirational districts. The initiative aims to deliver practical farming solutions directly at the grassroots level and boost confidence among cultivators through improved engagement.
Efforts are also being intensified to promote balanced nutrient management. Authorities plan to conduct district level evaluations to optimize fertilizer usage in major crops such as wheat and rice while encouraging the adoption of bio inputs to enhance soil health and sustainability.
The strategy further highlights the importance of crop diversification. Detailed mapping of millet cultivation zones is underway, alongside plans to introduce high value alternatives in regions where rice productivity remains low. Integration of activities like eco fisheries during the Kharif season is expected to provide farmers with additional income opportunities.
Technological adoption forms another critical pillar of the framework. The use of advanced farming methods such as direct seeding of rice is being encouraged, supported by improved weather based advisory services through strengthened research programmes.
To ensure timely execution, dedicated officers have been assigned across various divisions to track weekly progress and align efforts under a unified action plan. The task force will continue to meet as required, drawing upon expert inputs and institutional feedback to guide policy decisions and maintain agricultural stability in a rapidly evolving global environment.
