Gurugram, 26 March 2026 :The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has announced a comprehensive plan to undertake 35 road projects in areas prone to waterlogging, aiming to prevent flooding and curb sewage stagnation during the upcoming monsoon season. The initiative focuses on improving drainage systems, scientifically redesigning road elevations, and recarpeting key stretches across the city to ensure efficient water discharge.
Under the ₹145 crore plan, approximately 71 kilometers of roads will be upgraded, including major sectors such as Mayfair Garden (Sector 49), a new 24-meter-wide road in Sector 66, and recarpeting works in Sushant Lok 3, Nirvana Country (Sector 50), and South City 2. Additional stretches include 18-meter roads in Sector 46, roads in Sector 10A, the Samrat Meer Bhoj Chowk–village Kadarpur road, and the Main Sohna Chowk to Tulip Chowk stretch in Sector 69.
Several projects will combine road recarpeting with the construction or augmentation of stormwater drains to enhance water management and prevent flooding during heavy rains. Officials have prioritized drainage repairs before resurfacing, with timelines varying by location but most projects expected to be completed by December 31, 2026. Out of the 35 identified roads, 12 will be developed as model roads with advanced infrastructure.
While some stretches are already partially completed, work on 24 roads has not yet started due to tenders being re-evaluated or newly floated. On nine roads, around 25% of work has been completed, while two stretches have seen nearly 75% progress. The phased approach ensures that priority is given to resolving drainage and sewage issues before recarpeting begins.
At a review meeting last Friday, MCG officials were instructed to focus on scientifically redesigning road slopes and elevations to optimize water flow and prevent pooling during the monsoon. The municipal engineering teams are also monitoring the quality of construction to ensure long-term durability and efficiency.
Vijay Dhaka, Chief Engineer at MCG, stated that drainage improvements are being addressed first, followed by systematic road resurfacing. “Once the sewage and drainage systems are upgraded, we will proceed with recarpeting the identified stretches to ensure that the roads are safe and functional during the rains,” he said.
The initiative is part of a broader review of Gurugram’s urban infrastructure, which includes 108 ongoing road projects covering around 245.4 kilometers. These include 33 model roads spanning 60.87 kilometers, 75 other road projects covering 171.22 kilometers, and 33 roads linked to the Comprehensive Air Quality Management (CAQM) program measuring 61.71 kilometers.
By integrating drainage upgrades with road recarpeting, the MCG aims to reduce flooding, prevent sewage overflow, and enhance commuter safety in critical city sectors. The projects are expected to significantly improve urban mobility and resilience during the monsoon.
City planners highlighted that this multi-pronged approach not only addresses immediate waterlogging issues but also strengthens Gurugram’s long-term preparedness for extreme weather events, ensuring sustainable urban infrastructure development.
The municipal corporation has emphasized that residents can expect smoother traffic, safer roads, and improved flood management across the city once all projects are completed, reinforcing Gurugram’s commitment to proactive urban planning and infrastructure modernization ahead of the monsoon season.
