Appropriation Bill 2026–27 Reflects Government’s Vision for Nation-Building: Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma

New Delhi, March 24, 2026:Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma strongly supported the Appropriation Bill 2026–27 during the discussion in the Rajya Sabha and described it as a decisive instrument for translating the government’s vision of inclusive growth, accountable governance and nation-building into concrete action.

Participating in the discussion on the Bill, Rekha Sharma said the Appropriation Bill is not merely a procedural financial measure but a key constitutional mechanism through which Parliament authorises expenditure for implementing policies that directly benefit citizens across the country.

Highlighting the major budgetary estimates, she noted that the total expenditure for 2026–27 is estimated at ₹53,47,315 crore, including capital expenditure of ₹12,21,821 crore and effective capital expenditure of ₹17,14,523 crore. She said the projected fiscal deficit of 4.3% of GDP and the estimated debt-to-GDP ratio of 55.6% reflect the government’s balanced approach towards fiscal discipline along with sustained investment in growth-oriented sectors.

Rekha Sharma said the Appropriation Bill reflects the priorities of a forward-looking New India committed to strengthening infrastructure, enhancing defence preparedness, empowering farmers, women and youth, expanding digital connectivity, and ensuring effective last-mile delivery of welfare schemes.

She further said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, public expenditure has gained credibility through transparency, efficiency and measurable outcomes, ensuring that government spending translates into visible development and tangible improvements in citizens’ lives.

Emphasising the constitutional importance of the legislation, she said passage of the Appropriation Bill reaffirms Parliament’s central role in authorising public expenditure and strengthens democratic accountability in financial governance.

Rekha Sharma said every rupee authorised through the Bill represents an investment in infrastructure expansion, social empowerment, economic resilience and the national goal of Viksit Bharat.

Reiterating her support, she said the Bill reflects the government’s commitment to responsible fiscal management, transparent governance and development with accountability and purpose.

With these remarks, Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma extended her strong support to the Appropriation Bill 2026–27.
