Air Canada Express Aircraft Collides with Fire Truck at New York Airport, Operations Halted

FAA orders ground stop as Air Traffic Control issues urgent warnings during LaGuardia incident

New York, March 23, 2026: A passenger aircraft operated by Air Canada Express was involved in a collision with a ground vehicle, reportedly a fire truck, at LaGuardia Airport, prompting an immediate halt to flight operations and triggering panic inside the control tower.

According to initial reports, the aircraft, identified as a CRJ-900, was moving near the runway when it struck the vehicle during ground movement. Air traffic control audio that surfaced online captured tense moments, with officials repeatedly instructing the vehicle to stop as the situation unfolded.

Moments before the impact, controllers were heard urgently warning “Stop, stop, stop” while coordinating with multiple aircraft and ground units. Despite the alerts, the vehicle appeared to continue its path, resulting in the collision. Following the incident, incoming flights were instructed to abort landings and circle back.

Flight tracking data indicated that airport operations were quickly suspended after the accident. The Federal Aviation Administration subsequently issued a ground stop for all departures and arrivals, citing an emergency situation.

Unconfirmed inputs suggested the incident occurred near one of the main runways, which was later declared closed. Emergency teams rushed to the site, and passengers onboard the aircraft were evacuated onto the tarmac as a precaution.

Visuals circulating on social media showed visible damage to the aircraft, although officials have not yet released a detailed assessment. There has been no official confirmation regarding injuries or casualties so far.

Authorities are expected to launch a full investigation into the incident as efforts continue to restore normal operations at the airport.
