Lebanon, August 4, 2024: As tensions soar in the Middle East following high-profile assassinations, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France have issued urgent advisories for their citizens to evacuate Lebanon. This call comes in the wake of the assassination of Hamas’s political chief, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran, and Hezbollah’s military chief, Fuad Shukr, in Beirut. The killings have intensified regional conflict, with Iran and allied groups pledging retaliation.
The US has deployed additional warships and fighter jets to the region and advised Americans to leave Lebanon on “any ticket available.” The UK Foreign Office has urged British nationals to depart immediately, emphasizing that the situation could deteriorate rapidly. France’s Foreign Ministry also recommended that French citizens exit Lebanon as soon as possible due to the escalating security risks.
In response to the growing violence, major airlines have suspended flights to Israel, Iran, and Lebanon. Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon and rocket attacks from Lebanon into northern Israel have further heightened tensions. The conflict, which has already resulted in significant casualties in Gaza, continues to escalate, with ongoing violence causing severe disruption and concern in the region.
