Domestic benchmark indices climbed in early trade today, with the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange hitting a fresh all-time high. The 30-share index rose by 135 points to reach a new high of 78,188. The Nifty also increased by 28 points to 23,749. However, both benchmark indices later encountered volatile trends, fluctuating between highs and lows.
In the currency market, the rupee traded within a range against the US dollar in early trade today. The local unit opened at 83.45 rupees and then lost further ground, trading at 83.46 rupees against the greenback, registering a decrease of 3 paise from its previous closing level.
