New Delhi, October 7, 2026: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 25 years of public service, marking the anniversary of his taking oath as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001.
In a series of posts on X, Shah described Modi’s 25-year political journey as one spanning his tenures as Chief Minister and Prime Minister. He highlighted what he described as a focus on public welfare, women’s empowerment, youth development and economic growth.
Shah said Modi’s approach to governance had emphasised welfare policies, implementation, transparency and what he termed the “politics of performance.”
Recalling Modi’s tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister, Shah referred to the reconstruction of Kutch following the earthquake, the Jyotigram Yojana for electricity supply and initiatives such as Vibrant Gujarat aimed at promoting investment and industry.
He also highlighted agricultural growth in Gujarat and said the state’s governance model subsequently provided a foundation for initiatives at the national level.
Shah cited various welfare measures implemented during Modi’s tenure as Prime Minister, including housing, health coverage, LPG connections and tap-water access.
He also referred to the government’s claim that 250 million people have been lifted out of poverty during this period.
According to Shah, India has also recorded growth across sectors including manufacturing, digital payments, startups, semiconductors, defence production and renewable energy.
The Home Minister said Modi’s leadership had also contributed to India’s growing role in global affairs and described the country as an important voice for peace and harmony amid international conflicts and instability.
Shah said Modi had encouraged citizens to develop confidence in India’s capabilities and promoted the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, with the objective of making India a leader across multiple sectors.
The 25-year milestone marks the completion of a political journey that began with Modi becoming Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001 and later saw him serve as Prime Minister from 2014 onwards.
