Chandigarh- Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that Shrimad Bhagwat Katha is a means of awakening the soul, showing the right path in life and promoting harmony and the establishment of dharma in society. He said it would not be an exaggeration to describe the Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapurana as the heart of Indian culture. Through the divine leelas of Lord Shri Krishna, it presents a remarkable synthesis of the profound truths of life, karma, devotion, knowledge and detachment.

The Chief Minister was addressing a Shrimad Bhagwat Katha organised in Panjola, Patiala, in Punjab, on Thursday. Katha Vachak Sitapal Shastri, saints and spiritual leaders, and a large number of devotees were present on the occasion.
He said that Shrimad Bhagwat Katha is a sacred journey towards the ultimate welfare of the soul. Its origin is associated with the sacred occasion when Lord Shukdev, son of Maharishi Ved Vyas, narrated the Katha to Maharaja Parikshit on the holy banks of the Ganga. Maharaja Parikshit had been cursed to die from the bite of Takshak Nag within seven days, but rising above the fear of death, he immersed himself in the nectar of the Bhagwat Katha during those seven days. This is why, in Indian culture, Bhagwat Katha is generally organised as a seven-day religious observance.

CM Calls Upon Youth to Contribute to Nation-Building by Staying Away from Drugs
The Chief Minister said that Shrimad Bhagwat Katha helps maintain a balance between the material and spiritual aspects of human life and connects the younger generation with its cultural heritage and moral values.
He called upon the youth to stay away from the social evil of drug abuse and also help their peers remain free from it. Drug abuse affects not only an individual’s body and mind but also the family and society. Instead of wasting their energy on drugs, the youth should channel it towards constructive pursuits such as education, sports, skill development, social service and nation-building.

The Chief Minister said that the Haryana Government is committed to taking the teachings and thoughts of saints, great personalities and Sanatan culture to every section of society. The state is implementing the ‘Sant-Mahapurush Vichar Prasar Evam Samman Yojana’, under which the birth anniversaries of great saints, sages and eminent personalities are commemorated at the state level with due reverence.
He said that the International Gita Mahotsav is organised every year in Kurukshetra to take the immortal message of the Gita, delivered by Lord Shree Krishna, to humanity. Under the visionary leadership and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the eternal message of the Gita has today gained recognition at the global level. He urged devotees to visit the Jyotisar Experience Centre in Kurukshetra along with their families and children and experience the vivid narrative of the Mahabharata and the divine teachings of the Gita.
