The Impressive TimesFaridabad: Mr T, a patient from London, travelled to India for specialised treatment of a massively enlarged prostate weighing nearly 200 grams and underwent successful laser prostate surgery at ILSS Hospital, Faridabad.
Considering the unusually large size of the prostate, Mr T required specialised treatment and expertise in advanced laser prostatectomy. After evaluating his options, he chose ILSS Hospital because of its experience in treating very large prostates and the availability of a 150-Watt Jena Holmium Laser.
According to ILSS Hospital, it is currently the only centre in India offering EPS HoLEP, an advanced high-power HoLEP technique that enables rapid and efficient enucleation of large prostates.
In Mr T’s case, despite the prostate being nearly 200 grams, the laser enucleation was completed in just 30 minutes, while the total procedure time was approximately one hour. There was minimal blood loss, and the patient was discharged from the hospital in less than 24 hours.
Another important reason behind Mr T’s decision to travel to India was the long waiting period for surgery under the NHS in London. For patients with severe prostate obstruction, prolonged waiting can sometimes mean remaining dependent on a urinary catheter for months while awaiting definitive surgery.

Traditionally, exceptionally large prostates have often required consideration of more invasive surgical approaches, including open surgery. HoLEP allows obstructing prostate tissue to be removed endoscopically through the natural urinary passage, avoiding an abdominal incision.
