India dispatches 37.5 tonnes of aid to flood-hit Nepal in second relief mission

New Delhi, August 27, 2026; India has stepped up humanitarian assistance to Nepal by sending a second aircraft carrying 37.5 tonnes of relief material as rescue and recovery operations continue following devastating flash floods.

The consignment includes medicines, food packets, humanitarian assistance and disaster-relief equipment intended for communities affected by flooding, landslides and widespread damage.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said the aircraft had departed with the latest aid shipment and reaffirmed that India was maintaining close coordination with Nepalese authorities. He said New Delhi would continue supporting Nepal’s ongoing relief operations.

The latest shipment follows an earlier delivery of around 10 tonnes of essential supplies sent to Nepal on Wednesday. The first consignment was transported by an Indian Air Force C-130J Hercules aircraft and included medicines, generators and other emergency material.

In Kathmandu, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava handed over the initial relief supplies to Nepal’s Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadak Raj Paudel.

The Indian Air Force has also kept additional aircraft and resources ready in case Nepal requires further assistance. The second mission was carried out using a C-17 Globemaster aircraft, with arrangements made to deal with possible delays or diversion during the flight.

The flash floods, triggered by heavy monsoon rainfall, have caused extensive damage across affected parts of Nepal. Homes, roads, farmland and other critical infrastructure have been impacted, while rescue teams continue efforts to reach affected communities and locate missing people.

India‘s latest assistance is part of its broader humanitarian support for neighbouring countries during major disasters and reflects its continued focus on the ‘Neighbourhood First’ approach.

As Nepal manages the aftermath of the floods, India has indicated that further assistance could be provided depending on the requirements communicated by Nepalese authorities.
