According to the National Centre for Seismology, the first and stronger earthquake was recorded at around 6:05 am with a magnitude of 5.5. The tremor originated at a depth of approximately 10 kilometres.
A second earthquake struck later in the morning at around 9:54 am, registering 4.3 on the Richter scale.
The back-to-back seismic events occurred within a few hours of each other, marking a significant period of tremors in Leh. The available information did not immediately indicate any major damage or casualties following the earthquakes.
Authorities and residents remained alert as the region experienced repeated seismic activity during the morning.
Ladakh lies in a seismically active part of the Himalayan belt, making earthquakes a recurring natural hazard in the region. Further assessments may determine whether the latest tremors caused any structural damage in affected areas.
