New Delhi, June 21: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting marked the 12th International Day of Yoga with a special yoga session at the National Media Centre in New Delhi on Saturday. The event was organized in line with this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”

Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Chanchal Kumar, led the observance and participated in the session along with officers and staff members of the Ministry and the Press Information Bureau.

Addressing participants,  Chanchal Kumar emphasized that yoga should become an essential part of everyday life rather than being limited to an annual celebration.

He said regular yoga practice contributes to holistic physical and mental development while improving overall well-being. He encouraged people from all age groups and professions to adopt yoga as a daily routine for a healthier lifestyle.

According to him, consistent self-practice of yoga plays a significant role in enhancing both personal and professional productivity. The session was conducted by trained yoga instructors who guided participants through various yoga postures, breathing exercises (pranayama), and meditation techniques.

Officials and staff members actively participated in the programme, which followed the Common Yoga Protocol. The event highlighted the importance of maintaining physical fitness, mental balance, and emotional well-being through regular yoga practice.

International Yoga Day is observed every year on June 21 following its adoption by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014 after a proposal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Over the years, the observance has grown into a global movement promoting physical health, mental resilience, and holistic wellness. This year’s celebrations focused on the role of yoga in supporting healthy ageing and improving quality of life across generations.
