New Delhi, June 2: The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has announced that WAVES OTT, the digital streaming platform of Prasar Bharati, has surpassed 1 crore registered users, marking a major milestone in the growth of India’s public service digital media ecosystem.
The platform achieved the feat in less than two years since its launch in November 2024, reflecting the increasing popularity of indigenous digital platforms that provide trusted, inclusive and diverse content to audiences both in India and abroad.
WAVES OTT currently offers more than 24,000 content titles and over 15,000 hours of programming spanning entertainment, news, education, culture, spirituality and public service content. The platform also provides access to more than 140 live television channels and over 200 radio services.
In addition to entertainment content, WAVES OTT hosts educational programming through PM eVidya channels, digital editions of publications such as Yojana, Kurukshetra and Rozgar Samachar, live streams from prominent religious sites, special event coverage and a vast archive of content from Prasar Bharati.
Available across mobile devices, web platforms and connected televisions, the service now reaches viewers in more than 130 countries and offers content in multiple Indian languages free of charge.
Prasar Bharati said the milestone highlights the growing importance of public service media in the digital era and validates the vision of creating a unified platform that combines television, radio, on-demand entertainment, education, culture and heritage under one digital destination.
According to officials, the platform’s growth has been driven by continuous expansion of content offerings, strategic partnerships, improved accessibility across devices and enhanced user experience. Recent additions including devotional live streams, educational resources, digital publications and archival collections have further boosted audience engagement.
Building on this momentum, WAVES OTT has outlined ambitious expansion plans. The platform aims to strengthen content partnerships, expand device and platform availability, enhance regional and educational programming and reach 2 crore registered users by March 2027.
With more than 1 crore registered users and over 1.4 crore downloads, WAVES OTT has emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing public service streaming platforms, showcasing the country’s culture, knowledge, heritage and creative diversity to audiences worldwide.
