Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has put an end to speculation around sequels to two of his most loved films — Jab We Met and Tamasha.
During a recent interaction, the director shared that he currently has no intention of revisiting these stories, despite frequent requests from fans curious about the future of characters like Geet and Aditya.
Imtiaz pointed out that making a sequel does not automatically ensure success, referencing his experience with Love Aaj Kal. He suggested that continuing a story purely for the sake of it can dilute its original charm.
He explained that unless a compelling idea naturally emerges, he prefers not to extend narratives that already feel complete.
Both Jab We Met and Tamasha are considered among his most defining works, and the director emphasized that their emotional impact lies in their originality. He believes certain films should remain untouched to preserve their legacy.
Speaking about his filmmaking approach, Imtiaz said he does not believe in creating films with a commercial formula in mind. Instead, he chooses projects that genuinely inspire him as a storyteller.
For him, cinema begins with a strong emotional connection to the narrative, rather than a calculated decision aimed at box office success.
