MUMBAI, March 6: Veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar recently shared his thoughts on philosophy, his love for reading, and the health of his long-time friend and former writing partner Salim Khan.
Speaking during a public interaction, Akhtar reflected on how philosophical ideas and literature have influenced his thinking over the years. He said reading has always been an important part of his life, helping him understand society, human behaviour and deeper questions about existence.
The acclaimed writer noted that philosophy allows people to examine life from different perspectives and encourages critical thinking. According to him, books not only expand knowledge but also help individuals develop empathy and a broader worldview.
Akhtar also addressed concerns about the health of Salim Khan, with whom he formed the iconic Bollywood writing duo Salim–Javed. He said Khan’s health is being looked after and that the veteran writer continues to receive proper care from his family.
The duo, known for scripting several landmark Hindi films, played a major role in shaping mainstream cinema during the 1970s and 1980s. Their work remains influential in the Indian film industry even decades later.
Akhtar’s remarks offered a glimpse into his intellectual interests as well as his continuing bond with Salim Khan, highlighting both his literary passion and respect for long-standing creative partnerships.
