Prime Minister Modi Launches Development Projects Worth Over ₹50,000 Crore in Jharsuguda, Odisha
Major push for telecom, housing, education, healthcare, and industrial growth in Odisha.
Jharsuguda, Odisha , September 27, 2025- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development initiatives worth more than ₹50,000 crore in Jharsuguda, Odisha. Addressing a large gathering, he highlighted the Centre and State government’s commitment to accelerating Odisha’s progress across sectors including infrastructure, education, health, telecom, and housing.
Modi noted the significance of visiting the land of Maa Samalei and Maa Ramachandi during Navratri, and lauded the presence of women at the event, calling their blessings a source of strength. He recalled Odisha’s resolve in the last Assembly elections to pursue rapid development and stated that the projects launched reflect that vision.

Key Announcements and Projects
- Telecom Revolution: BSNL unveiled its fully indigenous 4G technology, placing India among the top five nations with homegrown telecom services. Nearly one lakh towers will extend high-speed internet to 30,000 remote villages, benefiting over 2 crore people. Modi underlined that the towers are 5G-ready and will improve education, healthcare, farming, and secure communication for armed forces.
- Rail Connectivity: The Prime Minister flagged off the Amrit Bharat train from Berhampur to Surat and inaugurated/dedicated major railway projects, including the doubling of Koraput–Baiguda and Manabar–Koraput–Gorapur lines, and a rail flyover at Sambalpur–Sarla. These projects aim to strengthen freight, tourism, and passenger movement in the region.

- Industrial & Technology Push: He announced the approval of two semiconductor units and plans for a semiconductor park in Odisha, envisioning the state as a hub for chip manufacturing. A large industrial corridor from Paradip to Jharsuguda is also under development. Additionally, a ₹70,000 crore shipbuilding package is expected to attract ₹4.5 lakh crore in investments and generate millions of jobs.
- Housing for the Poor: Under the Antyodaya Griha Yojana, approval letters for 50,000 new homes were distributed. Modi emphasized that owning a pucca house transforms the lives of poor families for generations. More than 40,000 houses were also sanctioned for tribal families under the PM Janman Yojana.
- Education and Skill Development: Expansion of eight IITs across the country, including major investment in Odisha, will add capacity for 10,000 new students. A new MERITE scheme was launched to modernize polytechnics and engineering colleges. The Odisha Skill Development Project Phase II will set up World Skill Centres in Sambalpur and Berhampur, upgrade ITIs, and establish advanced training facilities.
- Healthcare Infrastructure: The foundation stone was laid for upgrading MKCG Medical College in Berhampur and VIMSAR in Sambalpur into super-speciality hospitals, including trauma care, maternal and child care, and expanded medical services.
- Digital Education: Free Wi-Fi facilities have been rolled out across 130 higher education institutions, benefiting 2.5 lakh students.

Modi stressed that his government places priority on providing basic amenities to poor, Dalit, backward class, and tribal communities. He explained how recent GST reforms have reduced household and farming costs—families now save ₹15,000–₹20,000 annually on essential expenses, while farmers save significantly on tractors and agricultural equipment. He also announced reduced GST on kendu leaves, ensuring better returns for tribal collectors.
On healthcare, he highlighted the Ayushman Bharat scheme providing free treatment up to ₹5 lakh and the recently launched “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar” campaign, under which 3 crore women have already undergone health screenings in 8 lakh camps nationwide.
Odisha on Path of Growth
Modi emphasized Odisha’s rapid transformation, citing six operational Vande Bharat trains, modernization of 60 railway stations, rising mineral revenue, and women empowerment schemes like Subhadra Yojana. He assured that the pace of development will continue to accelerate, bringing prosperity to the state and its people.
The event was attended by Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Minister Jual Oram, along with several other Union Ministers and Chief Ministers who joined virtually.
