Sohna, Haryana- Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, today inaugurated TDK Corporation’s Advanced Technologies Lithium-ion (Li-ion) Battery Manufacturing Plant in Sohna, Haryana. The state-of-the-art facility is set to manufacture 20 crore battery packs annually, fulfilling nearly 40% of India’s total requirement and creating around 5,000 direct jobs, thereby reinforcing India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
Speaking at the inauguration, Vaishnaw called the plant a major milestone in India’s journey towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, emphasizing the domestic production of critical electronics components such as camera modules, PCB assemblies, semiconductors, and batteries. He noted, “The arrival of such advanced technology in India is a significant step towards self-reliance in electronics. Each milestone brings us closer to fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a complete electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India.”

The Minister highlighted that the first Made-in-India chips were recently showcased to the Prime Minister during Semicon India 2025. With the launch of this Li-ion battery facility, critical components used in mobile phones, wearables, hearables such as smartwatches, earbuds, AirPods, and laptops will now be manufactured domestically. The plant has the potential for future expansion to meet growing demand, further reducing import dependence and strengthening India’s position in the global electronics supply chain.
Vaishnaw also emphasized the role of the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) Scheme in enabling the establishment of the plant and thanked the Haryana government for its support in facilitating electronics manufacturing investments in the state. He noted that comprehensive training programs have been imparted to employees at the AT Bawal plant to ensure skilled workforce readiness for the new facility.
The inauguration of the Sohna plant marks another step in India’s vision of becoming a global hub for electronics production, supporting innovation, job creation, and domestic manufacturing capabilities.
