Shimla , 24 July , 2024 : Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu today launched the official website of the World Paragliding Cup-2024 to be held from 2 to 9 November in Bir-Billing of Kangra district. All the information related to the World Cup can be obtained in one click on the website. He said that the World Cup will be organized by the Himachal Pradesh government in collaboration with the Billing Paragliding Association. It is a matter of joy that such a big international event is being organized in Himachal Pradesh, which will promote tourism activities in the state.
He said that in the cross country competition, 130 pilots from 50 countries will show their prowess in this challenging and exciting competition. Bir Billing is the best place in the world for paragliding. He said that with the Dhauladhar range, the participants and spectators will get to see a very picturesque view and this competition will be unforgettable for them.
The Chief Minister said that the state government is fully committed to promote adventure tourism. Himachal is no less than a paradise for paragliding lovers due to its hilly landscape, favorable weather and natural beauty. The present state government is fully committed to provide all facilities for paragliding events. He said that Himachal Paragliding Festival will provide an opportunity to get acquainted with India’s rich culture, art, adventure sports, literature and entertainment. Various steps are also being taken to increase the participation of women in paragliding. World-class opening and closing ceremonies will be organized to showcase the talent of Indian players.
The Chief Minister said that tourism development is among the top priorities of the government which is capable of playing an important role in strengthening the economy of the state. Kangra district has been declared the tourism capital and basic infrastructure is being developed here so that the experience of the tourists coming here becomes memorable.
He said that heliports are being constructed at all district headquarters for better air connectivity. The construction work of five heliports has been started. Shimla’s Sanjauli airport is going to be ready soon. To promote tourism, water sports activities will be organized at Govindsagar in Bilaspur and Andrauli in Una. Activities like hot air ballooning are being encouraged at Pong Dam, which will also strengthen the economy of the local people. Apart from this, it has also been decided to allow shops to remain open for 24 hours during the tourist season.
Anurag Sharma, President of Billing Paragliding Association, said that the World Paragliding Cup will not only showcase the hidden talent of the players but the scenic beauty and adventure opportunities of this place will also get a new identity at the international level.
MLA Harish Janartha, Mayor Shimla Municipal Corporation Surender Chauhan, Principal Advisor to Chief Minister (IT & Innovation) Gokul Butail, OSD to Chief Minister Ritesh Kapret were present on the occasion while President of Paragliding World Cup Association and Competition Director of Paragliding World Cup Goran Dimishkovsky joined virtually.
