Hathras stampede incident is being investigated by the Uttar Pradesh government

The death toll from a stampede at a religious event in Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh, has risen to 121, with 28 seriously injured. The incident occurred during a Satsang of Bhole Baba in Phulrai village, Sikandra Rao tehsil. Devotees rushed to glimpse Bhole Baba after the event, causing the stampede.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh reported that 72 bodies have been identified. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a comprehensive investigation to understand the causes and prevent future incidents. A high-level committee, led by ADG Agra Zone, has been formed to submit a report within 24 hours.

President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed their condolences. PM Modi announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. CM Adityanath also announced similar compensation.
