New Delhi : Delhi Capitals will look to continue their winning momentum as they face the struggling Chennai Super Kings in Match 17 of the Indian Premier League 2025 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After narrowly edging past the Lucknow Super Giants and comfortably defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Capitals are eyeing a third consecutive win to further solidify their position on the points table.
On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings have found themselves in unfamiliar territory. After starting their campaign with a win against Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions have suffered consecutive losses to Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals. Their inability to chase down totals above 180 continues to haunt them—a weakness exposed once again in their recent defeat to RR in Guwahati, where they failed to chase 183.
The spotlight is now on Chepauk, long considered a CSK fortress. But recent performances suggest otherwise. Head coach Stephen Fleming candidly admitted that CSK have struggled to read home conditions in the past couple of years. “There’s no home advantage at Chepauk at the moment. We’ve not been able to assess the pitches well and it’s something we’re still working on,” Fleming said following the RCB loss.
Adding to CSK’s concerns, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad remains doubtful for the crucial clash, raising speculation that MS Dhoni may once again don the captain’s hat. The former CSK skipper remains a key figure in both leadership and finishing duties, and fans will be eager to see him take charge.
CSK will need to reassess their middle-order issues and find a way to handle Delhi’s potent bowling attack if they are to get back to winning ways. With pressure mounting and the Chepauk crowd expecting a turnaround, this match could be a defining moment early in the season for the Super Kings.
