New Delhi, 22 April, 2024 : The All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) is organizing its grand Centenary Convention from April 23 to April 26, 2024, during which various programs will be held from April 23, 2024, to April 26, 2024. Addressing a press conference held in New Delhi on April 22, 2024, Mr. Shiv Gopal Mishra, General Secretary of the All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF), stated that the AIRF, established on April 24, 1924, will be completing its 100 years on April 24, 2024.Reflecting on the history of AIRF, Mr. Mishra highlighted the organization’s century-long journey filled with struggles. He acknowledged the significant contributions of eminent leaders such as Shri Rai Sahab Chandrika Prasad, Shri Mukund Lal Sarkar, Shri N.M. Joshi, Shri V.V. Giri, Shri I.B. Sen, Shri Jamuna Das Mehta, Shri S. Gurumurthy, Shri Peter Alvares, Sushri Mani Benkara, Shri Jayaprakash Narayan, Professor Madhu Dandavate, Shri George Fernandes, Shri Priya Gupta, Shri J.P. Chaube, Shri Umraomal Purohit, and Shri Rachal Das Gupta, who served as presidents and general secretaries of AIRF, providing successful leadership and dedicating their lives to fulfilling the demands of railway employees.
Mr. Mishra expressed gratitude to these great leaders whose efforts have brought AIRF to this historic moment. He emphasized the significance of becoming witnesses to the “Centenary Convention” of AIRF, as such opportunities are rare for any organization. He underscored the extensive preparations made to make the Centenary Convention a historic and successful event.
The schedule of events includes a National Women and Youth Conference at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi, on April 23, 2024, followed by a rally for the AIRF Centenary Convention on April 24, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM at Karnail Singh Railway Stadium, New Delhi, and an open session of the Centenary Convention. On April 25, 2024, a delegate session of the AIRF Centenary Convention will be held at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi, and on April 26, 2024, the Convention of the Federation of Retired Railway Employees will take place at the Civic Center.
Mr. Mishra mentioned that on April 24, 2024, former railway employees who were instrumental in the historic railway strikes of 1960, 1968, and 1974 will be honored at Karnail Singh Railway Stadium, New Delhi. The event will witness the participation of more than twenty thousand railway employees from all over India, along with international leaders from the railway sector and various sectors.
The main guests of the event will be Mrs. Jaya Varma Sinha, the first female Chairman of the Railway Board, and Mr. Stephen Cotton, Secretary-General of the International Transport Workers’ Federation, who will inaugurate the event.
