Pakistan Link Confirmed in Pahalgam Attack: Foreign Secretary

New Delhi : In a powerful and precise counterterrorism operation, the Indian Armed Forces successfully carried out ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the early hours of Wednesday, May 7, targeting nine terrorist infrastructure sites located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation was launched as a direct response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including a Nepali citizen.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the operation was executed with measured restraint, ensuring no Pakistani military facilities were targeted, and emphasized that the mission was non-escalatory in nature, aimed solely at dismantling terror networks.

The strikes involved precision air and artillery assets, with all three branches—the Army, Air Force, and Navy—working in close coordination. The Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) is reported to have provided actionable intelligence leading up to the strikes.

The Indian Army posted a terse and symbolic message on social media platform X following the strikes:

Justice is served. Jai Hind!

This message resonated widely across the country, especially with the families of victims of the Pahalgam massacre, in which gunmen had brutally separated men from women before executing the men at close range.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had vowed swift and decisive action following the Baisaran tragedy, was closely monitoring the operation through the night. Sources in the Prime Minister’s Office said he was in constant communication with senior officials from the armed forces and the National Security Council.

In its statement, the Defence Ministry reiterated India’s commitment to counterterrorism, stating:

“India has demonstrated restraint in the selection of targets and method of execution. The intent was to destroy terror launchpads, not escalate tensions.”

International observers are closely monitoring the situation, with New Delhi expected to brief global partners and foreign missions later today to explain the rationale behind the operation and underline that the strikes were a calibrated response to terrorism, not a declaration of war.

A detailed press briefing on Operation Sindoor is expected later in the day, where defence officials will provide further insights into the execution, targets, and aftermath of the operation.
