New Delhi August 15 2024 : In his Independence Day address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored India’s preparedness to confront global and domestic challenges, asserting that the nation’s rise should not be seen as a threat to global stability. PM Modi conveyed a clear message to India’s adversaries—both state and non-state actors—that their attempts to hinder India’s progress would only delay, but not prevent, the country’s ascent on the world stage.
During the 78th Independence Day celebration, PM Modi alluded to the worsening global environment and expressed concern over recent violence against Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh following an Islamist coup. He highlighted that India faces significant challenges not only internally but also from external forces seeking to destabilize the country. “We are a land of Buddha, not a land of war,” Modi emphasized, asserting that India’s rise will benefit the global community, as the country has historically advocated for peace and never exported conflict, even during its period of advancement.
Addressing the Indian economy, PM Modi reaffirmed his goal of making India the world’s third-largest economy, trailing only behind the US and China. He voiced apprehension over potential global adversaries attempting to undermine this ambition through manipulation and exploitation of communal and caste divisions within India. Modi also took aim at domestic skeptics who have criticized the country’s rapid progress over the past decade.
PM Modi’s speech also reflected concerns about global instability, particularly with rising tensions involving Iran, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, and increasing cross-border terrorism from Pakistan. He pointed to the influence of Western powers in exacerbating Khalistani radicalization in Canada, the US, and the UK, which is affecting the situation in Punjab.
In referencing surgical strikes and the Balakot strikes, PM Modi not only commended the Indian security forces but also signaled a readiness to respond robustly to terrorism targeting India.
