Indian-Origin Man Killed During Robbery in US

Dallas (US), June 24: A 32-year-old Indian-origin man, Dasari Gopikrishna, was killed in the US state of Texas during an armed robbery. He was fatally shot during the incident at a convenience store in Pleasant Grove, Dallas, on June 21. Gopikrishna, originally from Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla district, had arrived in the US only eight months ago.

The Consulate General in Houston expressed deep sorrow over the tragic demise of Gopikrishna, stating, “Deeply saddened to learn about the tragic demise of Indian National Mr. Gopi Krishna Dasari, in a robbery shooting incident at Pleasant Grove, Dallas, Tx. We offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.”

The Consulate General is in touch with Gopikrishna’s local family members and is extending all possible assistance, including coordination with various Indian associations to facilitate the repatriation of his remains to India.

Gopikrishna sustained critical injuries during the robbery and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning. He is survived by his wife and a 10-year-old son. His death has deeply affected the NRI community in Dallas, with an outpouring of messages on social media.

Purported CCTV footage from the scene shows attackers shooting at Gopikrishna as he waits behind the counter. The footage shows the victim collapsing as masked men jump in to rob the aisles behind him.

Following his hospitalization, a person claiming to be his cousin started a GoFundMe account to collect funds for Gopikrishna’s expenses abroad.
