FSSAI has issued a directive mandating that all Food Business Operators, FBOs remove any claims of “100% fruit juices” from their product labels

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has mandated that all Food Business Operators (FBOs) must remove any claims of “100 percent fruit juices” from the labels and advertisements of reconstituted fruit juices with immediate effect. This directive addresses the issue of misleading marketing practices where reconstituted fruit juices were being inaccurately marketed as “100 percent” fruit juice.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued a statement explaining that FSSAI has observed numerous instances of FBOs making inaccurate claims about their products. The directive aligns with the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, which do not allow for such “100 percent” claims for reconstituted juices.
