Taipei – Taiwan has completed the initial test phase of its next-generation Tien Kung IV (Sky Bow IV) missile system, signaling a significant leap forward in the nation’s self-reliant defense capabilities. The move comes amid increasing security concerns and geopolitical tensions in the Indo-Pacific region.

Developed by the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST), the Tien Kung IV is Taiwan’s most advanced surface-to-air missile to date. Designed to intercept high-speed, high-altitude aerial threats — including ballistic missiles and advanced fighter aircraft — the system is a critical addition to Taiwan’s integrated air and missile defense network.

The initial trials included evaluations of the missile’s propulsion, flight path stability, and interception capabilities. According to defense officials, the tests were conducted successfully and provide a solid foundation for future phases of development and deployment.

This achievement is particularly significant as Taiwan continues to bolster its defensive posture in response to growing military pressure from mainland China.
