Minister Manohar Lal emphasizes local for vocal; Tourism Minister Dr. Arvind Sharma calls fair a symbol of cultural pride and economic self-reliance

Faridabad: The Surajkund Diwali Fair, organized with the theme “Self-Reliant India”(AatmanirbharBharat) and “Swadeshi” spirit, concluded with a grand cultural ceremony. Union Minister for Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, addressed the gathering as the chief guest at the closing ceremony, stating that the government is taking remarkable steps toward building a self-reliant India. He called the fair “a true example of self-reliance,” showcasing indigenous products, culture, and traditions.

The Union Minister was welcomed by Haryana’s Minister of Tourism and Heritage, Dr. Arvind Kumar Sharma, upon his arrival at Surajkund. Both leaders paid floral tributes to Maharishi Valmiki on his birth anniversary, inspiring people to follow his teachings. Held in the scenic valleys of Surajkund surrounded by the Aravalli hills, the second edition of the Diwali Fair concluded with vibrant cultural performances. The Union Minister visited stalls, encouraged entrepreneurs and artisans promoting Swadeshi, and highlighted that the fair not only boosts trade but also strengthens India’s unity and cultural heritage. Over 450 stalls were set up this year, with QR codes for online payments, encouraging digital transactions.

Stall bookings were also made online, reflecting the vision of Digital India. Manohar Lal noted that more stalls were dedicated to Swadeshi products, encouraging artisans and handicraft sellers. The Union Minister shared that business worth nearly Rs.5 crore was generated between October 2 and October 7, four times higher than last year. He added that upcoming editions of the fair would include more cultural, innovative, and entertainment activities to attract both national and global tourists.

Tourism and Heritage Minister Dr. Arvind Kumar Sharma described the Surajkund Diwali Fair as more than a commercial or cultural event, calling it a “unique confluence of folk traditions, art, culture, and social participation.”

He emphasized that the fair embodies Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Vocal for Local and Local to Global, strengthening family bonds and the spirit of self-reliance. Dr. Sharma informed that 456 stalls from across the country showcased art, handicrafts, handloom, boutiques, home décor, lights, jewelry, food, clothing, and footwear. Women self-help groups and local artisans demonstrated creativity and skills that highlighted Haryana’s talent. He asserted that adopting Swadeshi products ensures both economic self-reliance and global recognition. The Minister added that the Surajkund Diwali Fair has not only given a new identity to Faridabad’s tourism but also provided artisans employment, respect, and recognition. He expressed confidence that the fair would become a milestone in the Swadeshi campaign in coming years.

The event was attended by former Minister and MLA Mool Chand Sharma, MLAs Dhanesh Adlakha, Satish Fagana, Harinder Singh, Kanwar Singh Yadav, Bimla Chaudhary, Randhir Panihar, Mayor of Faridabad Praveen Batra Joshi, former MLA Narender Gupta, Principal Secretary of Haryana Tourism Kala Ramachandran, MD Haryana Tourism Dr. Shalin, Commissioner of Police Satendra Gupta, Deputy Commissioner Vikram Singh, along with other officials and dignitaries.
