New Delhi, June 15 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed on a four-day visit to Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia on Saturday, calling the tour a critical opportunity to strengthen strategic partnerships and bolster international cooperation against cross-border terrorism.
In his official departure statement, the Prime Minister highlighted the multi-faceted agenda of the trip, which includes bilateral meetings, multilateral engagements, and high-level discussions aimed at promoting trade, investment, security, technology, and cultural exchange.
“This three-nation tour is an opportunity to thank partner countries for their steadfast support to India in our fight against cross-border terrorism, and to galvanize global understanding on tackling terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” said PM Modi.
Modi’s tour begins with a visit to Cyprus, where he will meet President Nikos Christodoulides. The Prime Minister emphasized the historical and strategic ties between India and Cyprus and stated that the visit aims to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, and technology, while also enhancing people-to-people ties.
From Cyprus, the Prime Minister will travel to Kananaskis, Canada, to attend the G7 Summit at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. India’s participation is expected to focus on global economic challenges, the priorities of the Global South, and climate and security concerns. PM Modi expressed eagerness to engage with other world leaders and contribute to discussions on urgent global issues.
The final leg of the tour will take the Prime Minister to Croatia, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian PM to the Eastern European country. Modi is scheduled to hold meetings with President Zoran Milanović and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, with discussions centered on expanding bilateral ties in cultural, economic, and strategic domains.
The Prime Minister concluded his statement by reiterating India’s commitment to global peace and security and the need for collective action against terrorism.
