New Delhi-NCR region to gain major international gateway and boost connectivity

Noida, March 28, 2026; Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, formally inaugurated Phase I of the long-awaited Noida International Airport in Jewar today. The project, set to serve as a major international gateway for the Delhi-NCR region, marks a significant milestone in enhancing regional and global connectivity.

Security arrangements have been strengthened around the airport, with traffic advisories in effect from 7 am to 11 pm to ensure smooth movement while allowing emergency vehicles unhindered passage. The inauguration comes after multiple delays, with the airport initially scheduled to open in December 2024 and finally realized in 2026.

The new airport is expected to relieve congestion at Indira Gandhi International Airport, expand passenger capacity, and strengthen Delhi-NCR’s position as a global aviation hub. It will serve key cities in Uttar Pradesh including Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Mathura, and Agra, and act as a gateway to several pilgrimage and tourist destinations.

Prime Minister Modi is also scheduled to address a public gathering at the airport, highlighting the government’s focus on developing world-class infrastructure and boosting international connectivity in the region.
