Chandigarh, January 03, 2024– Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya today laid the foundation stone of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) branch to be established in Naggal of Ambala Cantonment in the presence of Haryana Health and Family Welfare Minister Anil Vij and Rajya Sabha MP Karthikeya sharma through virtual mode.
On this occasion, Health Minister Anil Vij said that earlier people had to go to Delhi for every work and earlier there was only one AIIMS. But due to the visionary thinking of the country’s Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi, today AIIMS have been built in every state. About 350 medical colleges have been built in the country. Similarly, NCDC’s lab was only in Delhi, now NCDC labs were inaugurated and foundation stones laid in many states of the country today. NCDC branch will be built in Naggal village of Ambala Cantonment and its land has been transferred to the Central Government. The branch will have tests for all serious diseases and viruses which cannot be done in hospitals or common laboratories. He told that research on diseases will also be done and its construction work will start soon. The branch being built on four acres has been set up for five states including Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, in which serious diseases, new diseases, virus testing and data will be specialized.
The branch will be constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 14 crore, which will have four floors including the ground floor.
The branch will have these facilities
ground floor:-There will be reception, waiting area room, lobby, conference hall, admin office, security room, IT video room, Head of NCDC room and other administrative offices.
First Floor:-Apart from sample collection and utility room, waiting room, lobby, there will be climate change room, EOC room, training room, IDSP, EPDMiology staff room, pantry and other rooms.
Second Floor:-Labs and other equipment will be installed in this floor which will include Climate Change Room, Macro Lab Bacteriology, AMR Lab, Lab Teaching and Demo Room, AMR Officer Room, Virology, Lobby and other rooms.
Third Floor:-There will be non-BSL lab area, BSL-2 lab area, staff common room, open terrace, pantry and other rooms and there is also a provision of two lifts in the entire building.
Ambala was chosen for NCDC
NCDC branch came into existence at Ambala because it is well connected by air, railway junction and GT Road and is close to Atal Cancer Care Centre, Civil Hospital Ambala Cantonment and three medical colleges from where routine samples can be taken. It will help detect, control and prevent new infectious diseases such as Ebola virus disease (2014), pandemic influenza A H1N1 (2009-10), SARS. The branch will be tasked with detecting, treating and preventing outbreaks of air, water and food borne diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, typhoid, hepatitis A and E, chickenpox and measles etc.
Meanwhile, before this, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, through VC, today inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of National Centers for Disease Control (NCDC) and said in his address that the construction of these projects will improve the health services. Under the able guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, work is being done to strengthen the health services in the country. Under Ayushman Bharat Scheme, free treatment facilities are also being provided to the needy people. Today, the foundation stone of ten NSCDC branches and other institutions has been laid and inaugurated at different places in the country.
During the program, Director General Health Department Dr. RS Punia, Dr. JS Punia, Regional Director Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh Dr. Amarjeet Kaur from Government of India, CMO Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Dr. DS Panwar, Dr. Sangeeta Goyal, Dr. Sukhpreet, Dr. Hitish Verma, Dr. Hitarth , Dr. Sanjeev Singla, Dr. Vipin Bhandari, Mandal Pradhan Rajeev Dimple, Kiran Pal Chauhan and Bijendra Chauhan, Ajay Baweja, Ashish Tayal, Jasbir Jassi, Lalit Chaudhary, Ravi Chaudhary, Deepak Bhasin, Lalita Prasad, Pushpa Gupta, Om Sehgal, other dignitaries were present.
