New Delhi, May 4, 2024: In a testament to India’s commitment to electoral integrity and transparency, the Election Commission of India (ECI) welcomes 75 international delegates from Election Management Bodies (EMBs) across 23 countries to witness the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
As a beacon of democratic excellence, the ECI extends its invitation to global EMBs, offering them a firsthand experience of India’s electoral processes through the Election Visitors’ Programme (IEVP).
Representatives from countries including Bhutan, Mongolia, Australia, and Tunisia among others, along with members from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and media teams from Bhutan and Israel, have arrived to participate in this unprecedented event.
Kicking off on May 4th, the programme aims to acquaint foreign delegates with India’s electoral intricacies and best practices. Chief Election Commissioner Shri Rajiv Kumar, Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar, and Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu are scheduled to address the delegates on May 5th, 2024.
Over the course of the programme, delegates will visit six states—Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh—in small groups to observe polling procedures and related preparations across various constituencies.
The IEVP culminates on May 9th, 2024, marking an enriching experience for international participants in witnessing the democratic ethos of the world’s largest democracy firsthand.
