NEW DELHI, 18 JUNE: The Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC), in its third meeting held on June 18, 2025, approved the construction of 2.35 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0). The meeting was chaired by MoHUA Secretary Shri Srinivas Katikithala and attended by senior officials, state mission directors, and principal secretaries from nine participating states.
The approved 2,34,864 homes span across Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. These houses fall under the Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) and Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) verticals. With this, the total number of homes sanctioned under PMAY-U 2.0 has reached nearly 7.1 lakh.
A notable feature of this phase is the focus on social inclusion and women’s empowerment. Over 1.25 lakh houses have been allotted to women, including single women and widows. Additionally, 44 homes were approved for transgender individuals, 42,400 for Scheduled Castes (SC), 17,574 for Scheduled Tribes (ST), and 1,13,414 for Other Backward Classes (OBC).
The Secretary urged larger states to draft state-specific affordable housing policies and adopt best practices, like Maharashtra’s policy. He also stressed attaching beneficiaries at the approval stage under AHP to prevent future occupancy issues.
PMAY-U 2.0 aims to provide 1 crore urban families—particularly those from EWS, LIG, and MIG segments—a chance to own a pucca house. Eligible families may receive up to ₹2.5 lakh in central assistance.
Officials encouraged states to expedite beneficiary verification on the unified portal and prioritize Special Focus Groups. Emphasizing sustainable urban planning, the Secretary advised states to adopt a Transit Oriented Development (ToD) model near major transit hubs, including NAMO Bharat and metro stations.
