Delhi Traffic Police Intensifies Road Safety Awareness Across the Capital

NEW DELHI, 12 JUNE: In a steadfast commitment to promoting safer roads and responsible driving behavior, the Delhi Traffic Police, under the supervision of Shri Satya Vir Katara, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic Headquarters), has successfully carried out a comprehensive series of Road Safety Awareness Programmes across Delhi. These initiatives aimed to engage a wide spectrum of road users — including school students, cyclists, auto/taxi drivers, public transport staff, and daily commuters — to raise awareness about traffic rules, women’s safety, and the importance of disciplined road usage.

On-Ground Awareness at Major Traffic Intersections

To ensure maximum public outreach, the Delhi Traffic Police conducted impactful awareness campaigns at key intersections, including Burfkhana Chowk and Chintamani Red Light GT Road Dilshad Garden, Delhi, engaging over 3500 road users — such as pedestrians, two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers, and cyclists. Participants were educated on critical road safety aspects such as obeying traffic signals, wearing helmets and seatbelts, and following general traffic discipline.

Visibility Drive for Cyclists

A dedicated Cycle Conspicuity and Safety Drive was held to enhance the safety of cyclists. In this campaign, 105 cyclists across various parts of the city were sensitized about safe riding practices. Reflective tapes were affixed to their bicycles to improve visibility during night hours, thereby significantly reducing the risk of accidents.

Awareness Sessions for Auto and Taxi Drivers

The Delhi Traffic Police also conducted Special Awareness Drives for auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers at prominent locations including the Shadipur bus Stand, TSR Stand dhaula Kuan and Apsara Border Seema Puri, Delhi. A total of 71 drivers participated in these sessions, where they were educated on essential traffic regulations, defensive driving, and the importance of courteous behavior. A key emphasis was laid on respecting women passengers, encouraging professional conduct, and ensuring a safe commuting environment.

Specialized Training for Public Transport Drivers

Recognizing the crucial role of public transport drivers in road safety, the department organized structured training sessions for DTC Bus drivers at DTC Depot Okhla, DTC Depot Naraina, DTC Depot Noida and DTC Depot Rohini-2, . Conducted over three sessions, the programme trained 121 bus drivers and 6 officials on topics including traffic law compliance, pedestrian awareness, safe braking, and proper conduct on the road.

Senior officers, including Special CP Traffic Sh. Ajay Chaudhary, Addl. CP HQ Traffic Sh. Satya VirKatara, and DCP HQ I Traffic Sh. ShashankJaiswal, commended the efforts of the Road Safety Cell in successfully spreading awareness. They emphasized the significance of such initiatives in fostering safer road habits and ensuring better compliance with traffic regulations, particularly among public transport personnel.

The Delhi Traffic Police remains dedicated to promoting road safety awareness and ensuring a safer, more efficient road environment for all citizens.
