IIT Institute Needed in Backward Region Bahin to Realize the Resolution of Antyodaya

HARYANA, 31 MARCH 2025: As part of the Government of India’s plan to establish a new IIT in Haryana, a Mahapanchayat was organized in the historic village of Bahin district Palwal to demand the establishment of this prestigious institute. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sumer Jeldar, the head of the Rawat community, and was attended by several prominent educationists, social reformers, public representatives and villagers.

The Haryana government has directed all DCs to identify 300 acres of land for this purpose. In response, the Bahin Gram Panchayat has proposed 300 acres of land to the DC Palwal. The Mahapanchayat was convened to discuss strategies for taking this proposal to the government and ensuring its implementation. A 21-member committee was formed to meet with government and political leaders to push forward the demand.

During the Mahapanchayat, Dr. Shiv Singh Rawat an IITian (PhD from IIT Delhi)
and former Superintending Engineer, Irrigation Department strongly advocated for the establishment of an IIT in Bahin and presented several solid arguments in its favor:

Firstly, ample availability of land: The Gram Panchayat has 300-500 acres of land available on the main road and has already proposed its transfer to the District Collector of Palwal. Very few Panchayats in Haryana have such large tracts of land readily available. The Panchayat is willing to provide more than 300 acres if needed.

Secondly, strategic location and excellent connectivity: Bahin village is situated on the Hodal-Nuh main road, which is currently being developed into a four-lane highway. This road connects to National Highways NH-248A (Gurgaon-Nuh-Rajasthan) and NH-8 (Delhi-Jaipur), enhancing regional connectivity and economic development. Additionally, the Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan borders are just 15-20 kilometers away, making the location highly accessible and strategically suitable.

Thirdly safe and peaceful environment:

Bahin is a very safe and peaceful region, with no riots or communal violence recorded since 1947. The area is known for its harmony and brotherhood, despite being located near the Mewat region.

Next, availability of water resources: A canal for irrigation passes near the proposed site, ensuring access to clean and fresh water. According to data from the Central Ground Water Board and the Haryana Government, the Hathin Block is classified as a safe zone for groundwater availability.

Lastly, need for educational development: This region is still educationally backward. While Haryana’s average literacy rate is above 75%, Palwal district’s literacy rate is around 70%, and Hathin tehsil’s literacy rate is even lower, below 60%. The establishment of an IIT in this area would bring a revolutionary improvement in education and provide excellent opportunities for local youth.

Dr. Shiv Singh Rawat emphasized that Bahin village meets all government criteria for an IIT. If established here, it would become an integral part of Haryana’s mainstream development and contribute to the Prime Minister’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” and “Antyodaya”.

Dr Rawat further elaborated that the movement for an IIT in Bahin is gaining momentum, and with strong community support and strategic advantages, the village stands as a compelling advantage for this prestigious institution.
