Mihir Shah’s Father Rajesh Shah Removed as Shiv Sena Deputy Leader

Mumbai, July 10  2024 : Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has removed Rajesh Shah, father of the accused in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, Mihir Shah, from his position as Deputy Leader of the Shiv Sena.

Mihir Shah is the prime suspect in the hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa. He was arrested by Mumbai Police from Virar on Tuesday, two days after the incident on Dr. Annie Besant Road in Worli on Sunday, July 7. Mihir Shah had been absconding since the accident, which led to the formation of 14 police teams to apprehend him.

Along with Mihir Shah, the police also arrested his father, Rajesh Shah, and his driver, Rajrishi Singh Bidawat, who was allegedly present in the BMW at the time of the accident. Rajesh Shah was later granted bail by a Mumbai court.

Pradeep Nakhwa, husband of the victim, accused the Shiv Sena of inaction due to the accused being the son of a party leader. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and MP Sanjay Raut alleged that efforts to protect the accused had been underway since the incident occurred. Raut, speaking after Mihir Shah’s arrest, highlighted the association of Rajesh Shah with the Palghar unit of the Eknath Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena.

Raut claimed that the government was trying to shield the accused and compared the case to a similar hit-and-run incident in Pune. He demanded that the police investigate Rajesh Shah’s criminal record, alleging his connections to the underworld and questioning his close association with the Chief Minister.
