UP CM Yogi Adiyanath Reviews Progress of Developmental Projects

Lucknow, July 4 2024 : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the progress of various developmental projects in the state during a meeting with the Urban Development Department on Thursday. Emphasizing the rehabilitation of slums, he directed officials to identify one slum in each municipal corporation and develop a plan for a multi-storey residential complex with basic facilities such as schools, markets, and parks. He noted that the markets in these complexes should be allotted to the families living in the slums and that the responsibility for managing the parks should also be given to them.

“This phased rehabilitation of slums will significantly improve the living standards of the people,” Adityanath said.

Addressing the increasing parking issues in the city, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for cooperation between the government, administration, and the public. He insisted that vehicles must be parked in designated spots and not on roadsides, with enforcement actions taken if necessary.

“Multi-level parking lots are proving very useful. Ensure to include commercial spaces in multi-level parking. Create plans for new parking spaces only after studying local requirements. Develop parking space rules for better facilities in the future,” he added.

Adityanath directed officials to take immediate action against illegal taxi stands and encouraged the use of electric buses in urban transport. He also stressed the importance of removing encroachments on drains, which are a primary cause of waterlogging.

“No hoardings should be placed on top of any building in urban areas. LED displays should replace the currently prevalent hoardings. This technology-based system will be convenient for advertising agencies, advertisers, local administration, and the public. Advertising hoardings should only be allowed in designated areas,” he stated.

The Chief Minister also emphasized the need for cadre restructuring in urban bodies to ensure the smooth running of Municipal Corporations, Municipalities, and Nagar Panchayats, highlighting the essential availability of adequate manpower.

Efforts are underway to upgrade 17 cities in the state to Smart Cities. Each project must be completed on time and meet quality standards, with physical verification of project quality ensured, Adityanath added.
