New Delhi – IPL 2026 auction saw franchises spending aggressively as teams went all out to secure top players. Kolkata Knight Riders grabbed maximum attention by breaking records and signing Australian all-rounder Cameron Green for Rs 25.20 crore, making him the most expensive overseas player in IPL auction history.
KKR continued their big spending spree by picking Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana for Rs 18 crore, which is the highest amount ever paid for a Sri Lankan cricketer at an IPL auction.
Young uncapped Indian players also emerged as big winners. Twenty-year-old left-arm spinner Prashant Veer from Uttar Pradesh became the costliest uncapped player in IPL history after Chennai Super Kings bought him for Rs 14.20 crore. He had entered the auction with a base price of just Rs 30 lakh. CSK also paid the same amount to acquire young batter Kartik Sharma, showing strong faith in upcoming Indian talent.
Another notable gain came for Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi Dar, who was signed by Delhi Capitals for Rs 8.40 crore despite having a base price of Rs 30 lakh.
Cameron Green’s price crossed the earlier overseas record held by Mitchell Starc, who was bought for Rs 24.75 crore. A strong bidding battle took place between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings before KKR sealed the deal. Green has earlier played for Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru and has featured in 29 IPL matches, scoring 707 runs and taking 16 wickets.
Kolkata Knight Riders were also part of the bidding race for Indian all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer but stepped back before Royal Challengers Bengaluru picked him up for Rs 7 crore.
Among other high-value purchases, Rajasthan Royals signed Ravi Bishnoi for Rs 7.20 crore, while Delhi Capitals strengthened their pace attack by investing heavily in Auqib Nabi Dar.
