India Strengthens Energy Security Through Diversified Imports Says PM Modi To Parliament

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlights India’s expanding global energy sourcing network during his Lok Sabha address, stating that the country now imports crude oil, LPG, and PNG from 41 nations to ensure stability amid global uncertainties.

New Delhi, March 23, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday informed Parliament that India has significantly strengthened its energy security by diversifying import sources, reducing dependency on a limited set of countries and expanding procurement to 41 nations.

Addressing the Lok Sabha during the ongoing Budget Session, the Prime Minister said India earlier imported energy from 27 countries, but sustained efforts have expanded this network to 41, ensuring a more stable and resilient supply chain.

He noted that crude oil, LPG, and natural gas supplies have been strategically secured to maintain uninterrupted availability of essential fuels across the country.

The Prime Minister also emphasized that the government is closely monitoring global geopolitical tensions, particularly in West Asia, to safeguard India’s energy and economic interests.He added that Indian missions abroad are actively engaged in ensuring the safety of Indian nationals and maintaining smooth diplomatic communication with affected regions.

Officials said the government has taken multiple steps to reduce supply disruptions, including diversifying shipping routes and strengthening strategic petroleum reserves.PM Modi further stated that India’s energy planning is focused on long-term stability, with increased attention on domestic production and alternative energy sources.

He also assured Parliament that there is sufficient coal stock in the country, and no disruption in power supply is expected despite global uncertainties.

The Prime Minister cautioned against misinformation and black market activities, urging state governments to take strict action against hoarding and unfair pricing practices.He reiterated that the government remains committed to protecting farmers, consumers, and industries from any adverse impact of global energy volatility.

The address comes amid rising concerns over global energy markets, with India seeking to balance economic growth, inflation control, and energy security in a challenging international environment.
