New Delhi : Prashant Kumar Mishra, General Manager of Modern Coach Factory (MCF), Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, and Rail Coach Factory(RCF), Kapurthala, Punjab, paid a courtesy call on Her Excellency Anandiben Patel, Governor of Uttar Pradesh, at Raj Bhavan, Lucknow, on February 3, 2026.
During the meeting, Mishra held detailed discussions on the remarkable achievements of Modern Coach Factory (MCF) and presented a copy of his acclaimed book “Rails Through Raj”, based on the history of Indian Railways, to Her Excellency.
The General Manager apprised the Governor of the production of over 15,000 state-of-the-art rail coaches at MCF, the manufacturing process and technical features of the first Vande Bharat train produced at MCF, and the significant progress achieved at the Forged Wheel Plant. He highlighted that the Forged Wheel Plant has achieved record wheel production within just two years of its takeover, substantially reducing the country’s dependence on imported wheels and marking a major step towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Mishra also outlined MCF’s initiatives towards environmental sustainability, including water conservation measures and green energy initiatives, and emphasized the manufacturing capability, technical excellence, and rapid progress of Indian Railways towards self-reliance.
Elaborating on his book “Rails Through Raj”, Mishra stated that the work is based on primary historical sources and presents the development of Indian Railways during the British era through a scientific approach and factual analysis. Owing to its in-depth research and engaging writing style, the book has emerged as a valuable and insightful resource for general readers, historians, and railway researchers alike.

Mishra further informed that Modern Coach Factory is actively pursuing environmental conservation alongside production activities. Millions of saplings and seeds are planted annually, the groundwater conservation capacity has increased to 730 million litres, and the installation of solar panels has enhanced MCF’s solar power generation capacity to 5.13 megawatts.
During the interaction, Her Excellency the Governor shared insights into her philanthropic initiatives, particularly her dedicated efforts towards improving school education for poor and destitute children, rehabilitation of child beggars, and her active role in motivating and supporting tuberculosis (TB) eradication efforts. Her Excellency appreciated the writing skills of Prashant Kumar Mishra and commended the outstanding achievements of Modern Coach Factory, extending her congratulations and best wishes to the entire MCF team. On this occasion, Her Excellency graciously presented her books, “चुनौतियाँ मुझे पसंद हैं” and “वे हमेशा याद रहेंगे”, as tokens of goodwill.
A highlight of the meeting was when Mishra invited Her Excellency to visit Modern Coach Factory, Raebareli, which she gladly accepted.
On the occasion, Mishra was accompanied by MCF Chief Vigilance Officer Akmal Wadood, Deputy Chief Financial Advisor Ashtanand Pathak, and Secretary to GM R. N. Tiwari.
