New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday announced that eligible ration card holders in Delhi will receive free LPG cylinders during Holi and Diwali, fulfilling a key promise from BJP manifesto. Speaking after the Cabinet meeting, CM Gupta said, “The Delhi government will provide free gas cylinders to the poor during Holi and Diwali.
The cabinet has approved a fund of Rs 242 crore for this initiative. This is a gift from the government on the completion of one year of the Rekha Gupta administration.” Under the scheme, beneficiaries will receive a cylinder subsidy of Rs 853 through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Families using piped natural gas (PNG) connections will also receive the same amount via DBT. In a separate announcement on Monday, CM Gupta unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art 105 million gallons per day (MGD) water treatment plant at Chandrawal, aimed at strengthening Delhi’s water supply infrastructure. The Rs 599 crore project, expected to be operational by 2026, will cover around 11% of the city’s population, including areas such as Model Town, Sadar Bazar, Chandni Chowk, Matia Mahal, Ballimaran, Karol Bagh, Patel Nagar, Rajinder Nagar, and R.K. Puram, which face significant water supply challenges.
