UK Charges Three Over North London Arson Attack Targeting Jewish Ambulances

Authorities in the United Kingdom have formally charged three individuals in connection with a fire incident that destroyed several ambulances belonging to a Jewish volunteer organisation in north London.

The vehicles, operated by Hatzola, were set ablaze in the early hours of March 23 in the Golders Green area. The ambulances were parked near a synagogue at the time of the attack, raising serious concerns within the local Jewish community.

Those charged include two young men—Hamza Iqbal, 20, and Rehan Khan, 19—along with a 17-year-old whose identity remains protected due to legal restrictions. All three face charges related to arson with potential risk to life. They were taken into custody earlier this week from different locations across east London.

The case is currently being handled by counter-terrorism officers, although officials have not classified the incident as terrorism at this stage. Legal authorities have also stressed that the accused are entitled to a fair judicial process as proceedings move forward.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer strongly condemned the attack, describing it as deeply disturbing and highlighting its antisemitic nature.

Law enforcement agencies have increased patrols in areas with significant Jewish populations, particularly as the Passover period approaches. Officials say the move is precautionary but aimed at reassuring residents following the incident.

Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack, while earlier suspects detained in the case have been released on bail pending further inquiry.
