Passenger airliner successfully lands in New Zealand following a fire that shuts down one engine

On June 17, A passenger plane landed safely at a New Zealand airport after one of its engines was shut down by fire, according to the country’s fire service.Following a diversion due to a fire, the Virgin Australia Boeing 737-800 destined for Melbourne, Australia, landed in the New Zealand city of Invercargill. Lynn Crosson, shift supervisor for Fire and Emergency New Zealand, said fire trucks met the jet when it arrived in Invercargill around 50 minutes after taking off from Queenstown.

The reason of the engine fire and the number of passengers aboard the plane were not immediately known, according to Queenstown Airport spokesperson Catherine Nind.
