Jerusalem, Feb. 17, 2025: Israel’s military announced on Sunday evening that its air force targeted sites in Lebanon, claiming the locations were Hezbollah military positions housing rocket launchers and other weapons. These strikes come amidst a delicate ceasefire between the two nations.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA), Israeli warplanes carried out two airstrikes on the outskirts of Harbata, and a third on Halbata, both situated in the northern Bekaa Valley, in eastern Lebanon. Additionally, another airstrike targeted Wadi al-Zayni, a town located north of Sidon in southern Lebanon.
An Israeli military spokesperson confirmed that Hezbollah activity had been detected at these locations, which allegedly contained rocket launchers and weapons. The spokesperson further stated that the militant activity at these sites was in violation of the ceasefire agreements between Israel and Lebanon.
These latest airstrikes mark another escalation in a series of Israeli military actions in Lebanon, raising concerns over the growing tensions in the region. Despite a ceasefire agreement that has been in place since November 27, Israel has continued occasional airstrikes in southern and eastern Lebanon, increasing fears of a broader conflict.
The ongoing tension has also been linked to the deadline for Israel’s full withdrawal from Lebanon. Initially set for February 18, this deadline was extended after Israel missed the original target. However, Lebanon has made it clear that it will not accept any further extensions, further complicating the already fragile peace between the two countries.
The situation remains tense, with both sides accusing each other of violations, and international observers continue to monitor developments closely. The fragile ceasefire is at risk of collapsing, and there are growing concerns that the strikes could ignite further conflict in an already volatile region.
