Samay Raina Faces Second Summons From Maharashtra Cyber Dept for Controversial ‘India’s Got Latent’ Comments

Mumbai : The Maharashtra Cyber Department has announced that it will issue a second summons to popular YouTuber and comedian Samay Raina regarding his controversial remarks on the show India’s Got Latent. The decision comes after Raina failed to appear for a scheduled statement recording session on February 18, prompting authorities to take further action.

In an official statement, the Cyber Department confirmed that the fresh summons aims to ensure Raina’s presence for the recording of his statement as part of the ongoing investigation. The controversy stems from comments made by Raina that some viewers found offensive, sparking backlash and leading to the department’s involvement.

Previously, Raina had requested the Maharashtra Cyber Cell to allow him to record his statement via videoconferencing, explaining that he is currently in the United States due to prior commitments and will not be able to return to India before March 17. Despite this request, the department rejected his plea, stating that his statement must be recorded in person. Officials emphasized the importance of physical presence for the investigation, underscoring standard procedures followed in such cases.

The first summons, issued earlier this month, required Raina to appear at the Cyber Department’s office in Mumbai to provide his statement. However, his absence has now led to the decision to reissue the summons, with authorities expecting compliance upon receipt of the notice. Failure to respond to the second summons could result in further legal consequences, as non-compliance with official notices is taken seriously under the law.

Samay Raina, known for his online chess streams, comedy shows, and digital presence, has a substantial following on social media platforms. His remarks on India’s Got Latent—a show known for its satirical take on current events—have sparked mixed reactions, with supporters defending his right to free expression while critics argue that the comments crossed a line.

As the investigation progresses, the Maharashtra Cyber Department remains firm on adhering to procedural protocols, ensuring that all individuals involved cooperate fully. The outcome of Raina’s statement and subsequent actions will likely determine the next steps in the case.
