Hyderabad, July 24, 2025:Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan returns to the silver screen with Hari Hara Veera Mallu, a historical action epic that is one of the most anticipated Telugu releases of the year. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi and AM Jyothi Krishna, the film not only marks Kalyan’s comeback but possibly his farewell project, as he prioritizes political responsibilities as Andhra Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister.
Despite the hype, the film’s box office prospects are facing scrutiny, especially when compared to other high-budget Telugu pan-India films like Game Changer or Kalki 2898 AD.
Advance ticket sales for Hari Hara Veera Mallu show solid numbers:
₹30 crore in India,
₹16 crore overseas, including ₹4.5 crore in North America,
bringing the global advance total close to ₹50 crore.
Trade experts predict a ₹40-50 crore opening in India, which could become Pawan Kalyan’s biggest ever, surpassing Vakeel Saab’s ₹40.5 crore debut. Overseas, the film is expected to collect another ₹25 crore, leading to a potential ₹70-80 crore worldwide haul on Day 1.
However, the comparison with Ram Charan’s Game Changer casts a long shadow. While Game Changer opened at ₹80 crore globally, it fizzled out quickly, ending at ₹186 crore—well below break-even.
For HHVM, the breakeven point is ₹225 crore, as per distribution rights sold over ₹100 crore. The film will need:
Strong word-of-mouth,
Steady performance beyond the opening weekend,
And better traction in non-Telugu markets, where the buzz remains limited.
Set in the Mughal era, Hari Hara Veera Mallu follows the titular outlaw (Kalyan) as he confronts Aurangzeb, played by Bobby Deol, to retrieve the Koh-i-Noor diamond. The film also stars Nidhhi Agerwal, Nora Fatehi, Nargis Fakhri, and Sathyaraj.
Slated for release on July 24, HHVM is a crucial test of Pawan Kalyan’s mass appeal and could well determine the fate of historical epics in India’s post-Kalki box office landscape.
