Yogi Adityanath Accompanies BJP Nominees as Eight Candidates File Rajya Sabha Papers in Lucknow

Dharampal Singh, Vidyasagar Sonkar, Ram Pratap Singh Chauhan, Priyanka Rawat and five others submit nominations for October 16 polls

Lucknow, October 6, 2026: Eight Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates filed their nomination papers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh at Vidhan Bhavan in Lucknow on Tuesday, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accompanying the nominees.

The nominations were filed on the final day for submission of papers. BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhary, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, and other senior party leaders were also present during the filing process. Reports confirmed that all eight BJP nominees submitted their papers in Lucknow.

The BJP’s eight candidates are Dharampal Singh, Vidyasagar Sonkar, Ram Pratap Singh Chauhan, Priyanka Rawat, Radhakant Ojha, Gopi Krishna Pandey, Shruti Gangwar and Prakash Pal.

Keshav Maurya Expresses Confidence

After the nominations were filed, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya expressed confidence in the BJP candidates and said the party would secure victories in the Rajya Sabha elections.

Maurya also criticised Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav over his statements regarding electoral numbers. His remarks were directed at the SP’s earlier projections during the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and its current political positioning.

The BJP has said its nominees represent different social groups, with Maurya describing the selection as a combination of candidates from forward, backward and Scheduled Caste communities.

Sonkar and Pal Thank Party Leadership

Among the nominees, Vidyasagar Sonkar and Prakash Pal recently thanked the BJP’s central and state leadership after being selected for the Rajya Sabha contest.

Sonkar said he had worked at different levels of the party organisation, from the booth level to the state organisation, and expressed his intention to continue serving as a party worker.

Pal also thanked the party leadership for placing its trust in him and said he would work to fulfil the responsibility entrusted to him.

Rajya Sabha Elections on October 16

The biennial Rajya Sabha elections for Uttar Pradesh are scheduled for October 16. Uttar Pradesh has 10 Rajya Sabha seats involved in the current electoral process.

The filing of nominations by the BJP candidates marks the latest step in the electoral process, with scrutiny and other formalities to follow before polling.

The final outcome will depend on the voting by elected members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
