Revamped India Code Portal Launched with AI-Powered Search and Multilingual Access

New Delhi, August 13, 2026: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal on Thursday launched the revamped India Code Portal at Kartavya Bhavan-2 in New Delhi, introducing a range of technology-driven features aimed at making access to legislative information easier and more user-friendly.

The launch event was attended by Attorney General for India R. Venkataramani, Legislative Department Secretary Dr Rajiv Mani, Additional Secretary Dr Manoj Kumar, senior officials, and representatives of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and IndiaAI Mission.

The upgraded portal has been developed with the objective of providing citizens, lawyers, researchers, government departments and other stakeholders with faster and more convenient access to authentic legislative information.

Speaking at the event, Meghwal highlighted the importance of ensuring that laws are not only available but also easily accessible and understandable to the public. He said the technological upgrade would help improve transparency and make legislative information more citizen-centric.

The revamped platform introduces AI-assisted search, semantic search and speech-enabled search, along with improved navigation and a more user-friendly interface. Users can also access amendments, legislative history and links between Acts and related subordinate legislation more conveniently.

Another major feature is the integration of the portal with the e-Gazette ecosystem, along with improved document viewing, QR-enabled access and a structured mechanism for citizen feedback.

The upgraded India Code Portal is also designed to support multilingual access to laws in all 22 languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, with AI-assisted capabilities aimed at making legal information more accessible across the country.

Dr Rajiv Mani said the revamped platform reflects the department’s efforts to provide reliable and updated legislative information through modern digital tools. He also emphasised the importance of making legal information easier to discover and navigate.

Dr Manoj Kumar said that access to law is an important step towards access to justice. He explained that the upgraded portal is intended to evolve from a conventional repository of legal documents into an interconnected digital gateway through which citizens can find, understand and use legislative information more efficiently.

India Code serves as a central digital repository containing Central and State Acts, subordinate legislation, and Union Territory laws and regulations.

With the latest technological upgrades, the government aims to create a more searchable, interconnected and citizen-friendly legal information system. The initiative is also part of broader efforts to use digital technology to improve transparency, legal awareness and access to public services.

The revamped portal is expected to make legislative information more accessible to citizens and legal stakeholders while strengthening the overall digital legal information ecosystem in the country.
