New Delhi, June 3: In a major crackdown on street crime, Delhi Police’s Mayur Vihar Police Station has arrested a proclaimed offender and habitual snatcher involved in multiple criminal cases and recovered stolen property, including mobile phones and motorcycles.
The accused was apprehended red-handed by police personnel soon after committing a mobile phone snatching incident in the Mayur Vihar area. The victim’s Apple iPhone 14 was recovered immediately from his possession.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Vivek Chauhan, a 25-year-old resident of MCD Flats, Usmanpur, Delhi. He was initially found using a false identity and later confirmed to be a proclaimed offender wanted in several cases across Delhi.
Police said the accused is allegedly involved in around 16 criminal cases and had been evading arrest for a long time. Proceedings under Section 82 CrPC and non-bailable warrants were already pending against him in multiple cases.
A team of Mayur Vihar Police Station was actively engaged in surveillance and patrolling in crime-prone areas when the incident occurred. The accused was chased and overpowered near Prem Chand School with the help of alert personnel.
During interrogation, the accused disclosed his involvement in earlier snatching incidents in the same jurisdiction. Based on his disclosure, police recovered additional stolen property from different locations in Trilok Puri.

The recovered mobile phones include brands such as Apple, Redmi, Vivo, Realme, OnePlus and Tecno, which are linked to multiple FIRs and e-FIRs registered across different police stations in Delhi.
The arrest has led to the detection of multiple cases, including two snatching cases registered at PS Mayur Vihar and several vehicle theft and mobile snatching cases across East Delhi and adjoining areas.
Police said the accused has been sent to judicial custody and further legal proceedings are underway.
Officials described the operation as a significant success in curbing street crime in East District, stating that continuous surveillance and proactive policing played a key role in the arrest.
