Family and neighbours recall 22-year-old victim’s dreams of becoming a civil servant

New Delhi- The 22-year-old UPSC aspirant who was allegedly raped and murdered in south Delhi’s Kailash Hills is being remembered by her family as a humble, ambitious young woman who was deeply focused on her goal of joining the civil services.

Relatives said she was preparing seriously for the UPSC examination scheduled for May and was confident of clearing it in her first attempt. Her family shared that she often expressed her desire to follow in her father’s footsteps, a senior civil servant, and wanted to make her parents proud.

Family members described her as a talented student who had completed her engineering from IIT Delhi after studying in a reputed south Delhi school. They said she was not only academically strong but also helpful, often guiding cousins and friends in their studies and competitive exam preparation.

Neighbours recalled her as soft-spoken and grounded despite her academic achievements. One neighbour said she shared a close bond with her peers and had even participated in an international exchange programme during her school years.

According to police and family accounts, the incident came to light when her parents discovered her critically injured inside their home and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead. A postmortem later confirmed sexual assault and strangulation as the cause of death.

The accused, Rahul Meena, a former domestic help of the family, was later arrested by police in connection with the case. Authorities are continuing their investigation.
